In order to activate the USB port in the LG LCD TV models mentioned above, you need to be on Firmware version 3.15 of your LCD TV. Therefore it is important to check what firmware version you have before applying the hack. You can do that by pressing MENU on the remote, then SETUP and then go to DIAGNOSTICS.
If you’re on V 3.15 then you’re good to go! If you’re on versions above 3.15 then you need to follow the steps mentioned in this wiki in the section Above 3.15
Before we start:
This hack will flash your firmware which will/might void your warranty. If you follow the guide and read it thoroughly you’ll be just fine. However if you’re uneasy at trying this there’s a way to accomplish this with a InfraRed (IrDA) hack. If you want to go that way please follow the IR Hack section of the wiki.
Still here? WOW! You’re a brave soul! OK then, let’s continue.
After you’ve made sure you’re on v. 3.15 here’s the steps required to enable USB playback:
1. Press and hold OK on the remote and on the TV set and wait for 5 seconds.
2. When asked for password enter this password: 0000
3.After you entered the service menu go to Tool Option 3 as shown below
4. After you’ve entered Tool Option3, change these values
EMF (JPEG,MP3) to 1
Divx to HD
as shown below:
DON’T CHANGE ANYTHING ELSE, AS YOU CAN BRICK YOUR TV !
YOU MIGHT FEEL BRAVE ENOUGH TO PLAY WITH THE OTHER SETTINGS, BUT YOU WILL BRICK YOUR TV AND END UP WITH A BRICKED TV SET. ONLY CHANGE WHAT IS SHOWN ABOVE !
That’s it! Now you can go back and when you press MENU on your remote you’ll see that a new USB item in your menu has appeared.
There you go! Enjoy your new LCD TV & Media Player.
Above v. 3.15
If you see in your DIAGNOSTIC screen that your LCD TV has a firmware version above v.3.15 then this hack won’t work with the MENU combination. You will need to downgrade the firmware to version 3.15 initially so that you can enable the hack with the combination from above and then you can upgrade and the hack will still be functional.
Before we start, if you’re above V3.15 the first suggestion is to try the IR Hack , which is safer and doesn’t void your warranty.
If however for some reason you can’t find a remote, then you can follow the guide below.
If you have V3.48 or V3.47 on your DIAGNOSTIC screen don’t try to downgrade with this method as you will brick your TV! You have been WARNED!
Simply upgrade first to V3.55 and then downgrade to V3.15.
YOU CAN only downgrade with this method if your firmware is V3.24, V3.37, V3.40,V3.55 AND V3.63 (which is the latest firmware)
